Yakushima Environmental and Cultural Village Center

Miyanoura

Main exhibition hall displays information about natural history of Yakushima. There is a large-scale screen showing a film that is a great introduction to Yakushima. There is a souvenir shop and the tourist information center within the building.

Admission: Adult 530 yen

Hours: 9: 00 to 17: 00 (last admission at 16:30)

Closed: Mondays (Tuesdays if a public holiday falls on a Monday)

Open everyday from 4/29 to 5/5 and 7/20 to 8/31

Facilities: Accessible toilets available

Yakushima Town History and Folk Museum

Miyanoura

A great place to learn about the life and the history of the island from Jomon Period to the present days. A folder with information in English available at the reception.

Admission: Adult 100 yen Elementary to high school students 100 yen

Hours: 9: 00 to 17: 00

Closed: Mondays and Saturday afternoons, 12/28 to 1/4

Yakusugi Museum

Anbo

Yakusugi Museum is dedicated to Yakushima's famous cedar trees - Yakusugi. The museum exhibits about the history of forestry on the island and the relationship between Yakusugi and the people of Yakushima. The building is sensitively designed in an attractive location. An audio English guide is available.

Admission: Adult 600 yen

Hours: 9: 00 to 17: 00 (last admission at 16:30)

Closed: First Tuesday of the month. Open everyday from August and November

Facilities: Accessible toilets available

Yakushima World Heritage Conservation Center

Anbo

A facility run by the Ministry of Environment that opened after Yakushima was registered as a World Heritage Site. Introduces the national parks and environmental protection practice on Yakushima.

Admission: Free entry

Hours: 9: 00 to 17: 00 (last admission at 16:30)

Closed: Saturdays from 12/1 to 2/28. Closed from 12/28 to 1/3

A learning center for environmental studies. Offers a wide variety of outdoor workshops and seminars​.
