You can try with or without a guide.
Sea kayaks are designed for stability in the sea, allowing you to slide over the surface of the sea with the breeze in your face. You should take a guide for this as the sea is dangerous even on the calmest days.
Trips are from a couple of hours to all day. Your guide will select the best location based on sea conditions and the wind.
The sea around Yakushima claims lives!
Sadly, even experienced islanders and fishing boats are lost from time to time, either at sea or taken by high waves. There are often strong currents and sudden changes in sea conditions are possible. The sea may not be as calm and friendly as it looks and you should take great care.
Where to go Kayaking
Miyanoura River, Anbo River and Kurio River are the main places for river kayaking. Sea kayaking tours take place at different points depending on the guide and the weather conditions. It's best to check in advance if you have any preferences. Most tour companies offer half day and one day tours but some offer over night camping tours.
The river is calm and in a convenient location, a perfect spot for kayaking. The river flows in a valley and you can enjoy the green scenery all around.
Located in the southwest of the island, you can find Youth Travel Village and Tsukasaki tidepool here. There are many kinds of fish and coral here. Toiltes and showers are available at Tsukasaki.
