Yunoko-no-yu

Miyanoura

10-15 minutes drive from Miyanoura Port. A sulfur hot spring facility located on  the grounds of Yakushima Comprehensive Park. There is a Goemon bath where a 20.1 ° C cold spring is heated with firewood.

*Reservation necessary.

Fee:  Adult: 400 yen Child: 150 yen

Hours: 12: 00 to 19: 00

Closed: Mondays

Directions: 30 minutes on foot from bus stop No.26 "Ushitoko Park"

Kusugawa Onsen

Kusugawa

A communal public bath with a history of more than 400 years, located 200 meters uphill from the main road . A  spring at 24.5 degrees is heated and filled into the tub that can fit about 8 people. Bring your own towels, soap, shampoo (preferably environmentally friendly  products). Fireflies can be spotted in the early summer by Yunokawa River next to the hot spring.

Fee:  Adult: 300 yen Child: 150 yen

Hours: 9: 00 to 21: 00

Closed: 1st of every month 

Directions: 10 minutes on foot from bus stop No.38 "Kusugawa Onsen"

Jomon-no-yado Manten Onsen

Koseda

A hot spring in Jomon-no-yado Manten, a hotel across from the airport. In addition to indoor baths, there are open-air baths, cypress bathtubs, family bathtubs, bedrock bath, dry saunas, and steam saunas.

Fee: Adult 1,500 yen, Child 1,000 yen, Infant 500 yen

* There is extra charge for family baths and bedrock bath

Hours: 15: 00-22: 00

Closed: Open everyday

Onoaida Onsen

Onoaida

A public natural hot spring (very hot). The Sulphur hot spring flows directly from the source that is just under the pebbled stones laid down in the the bath. It is told that the hot spring opened 350 years ago after a hunters saw a deer healing its wound in the spring. Bring your own towels, soap and shampoo (environmental-friendly products preferred).

Fee: Adult 300 yen, Child 150 yen

Hours: 7: 00-21: 00

Closed: Mondays

Yakushima Onsen (Hotel Yakushima)

Onoaida

The  indoor bath and an open-air bath overlooks the open ocean from the East China Sea to the Pacific Ocean. This hot spring has a luxurious, almost creamy texture. It feels like you have are bathing in lotion.

Fee: Adult 1,400 yen, Child 700 yen (including towels and bath towels)

Hours: 15: 00-18: 00 

Closed: Open everyday

Hirauchi Kaichu Onsen

Hirauchi

It is a natural hot spring located in the village of Hirauchi. You can take a bath for around two hours before and after the low tide. It is a mixed bath, using the holes in the rocks as bathtubs. You cannot wear bathing suits or underwear but you can use a towel or a sarong to cover yourself. At night, you can bathe under the stars.

Fee: 200 yen

Hours: Two hours before and after low tide

Closed: Open everyday

Yudomari Onsen

Yudomari

Natural hot spring (not very hot) on Yudomari beach that you can bathe any time. You can hear the waves and watch the sunset from the open-air bath. There is a simple partition between the men and women's baths. Bathing suits or underwear is not allowed but women are allowed to wear special clothes for bathing  The changing room is next to the parking lot.

Fee: 200 yen

Hours: All day

Closed: Tuesday mornings

Honmura Onsen

Kuchinoerabu Island

A community bath completed in July 2008. There is a view of Mt Shindake, an active volcano and the sunset from the bath. The water is light brown due to it's high iron content. 

Fee: 350 yen

Hours: 16:00 to 20:00

Closed: Monday mornings

 

Directions: Take the ferry from Miyanoura Port to Kuchinoerabu Island (takes 1h40). Then a ten minute walk from Honmura Port

Nishinoyu Onsen

Kuchinoerabu Island

A simple hut on the coast. The iron rich hot spring rises around high tide. You can see the sunset and the stars from the outdoor bath along with the waves. 

Fee: 200 yen

Hours: Open all day but the water is adjusted to be suitable for bathing after 17:00

Closed: Open everyday

 

Directions: Take the ferry from Miyanoura Port to Kuchinoerabu Island (takes 1h40). Then a 20 minute drive from Honmura Port. *Please note that there is no public transpotation available on the island

Nemachi Onsen

Kuchinoerabu Island

A hot spring on the coast by "Tategami", one of the island's sights. People on the island has been bathing here for health throughout history. This milky hot spring is said to have medicinal benefits and hot spring enthusiasts visit from all over the country. 

Fee: 200 yen

Hours: Open all day

Closed: Open everyday

 

Directions: Take the ferry from Miyanoura Port to Kuchinoerabu Island (takes 1h40). Then a 15 minute drive from Honmura Port. *Please note that there is no public transpotation available on the island

Yumugi Onsen

Kuchinoerabu Island

A hot spring that has been valued by Yumugi Village. You can see mineral deposits floating in the water. Quiet and relaxing hot spring. 

Fee: Recommended donation 100 yen

Hours: Open all day

Closed: Open everyday

 

Directions: Take the ferry from Miyanoura Port to Kuchinoerabu Island (takes 1h40). Then a 30 minute drive from Honmura Port. *Please note that there is no public transpotation available on the island
